After six months out of work, stone masonry apprentice Seva Oberleuter has been employed by a Portsmith firm.
He has joined The Marble and Granite Fitters Cairns Pty Ltd as a third-year apprentice after spending a month working as a casual. “I haven’t had a good job for six months after I was retrenched when the last company I worked for closed,” the 22-year-old said. “I love the job. As soon as I was offered the apprenticeship I was stoked.”Mr Oberleuter said he would finish his trade at the company, including block courses at TAFE in Brisbane and a year in field work.
Company director Jo Gomizel said the company was happy to employ Mr Oberleuter. “Seva still highly enjoys the stone masonry craft and it’s an absolute pleasure to have him as part of our growing team.”
He joins another apprentice and four other staff and his work includes polishing, grinding and cutting stone.
The Cairns Post has joined Skill360 Australia and Tropical North Queensland TAFE’S SchoolTech program to employ 50 Apprentices in 15 Days.
