Marble

Marble stones consist of limestone that has undergone heat and pressure.
A transformation process takes place when the weight of overlying material, pressure from crystal collisions and heat from the earth’s core generate temperatures in excess of 1800°F.

The texture of marble depends on the form, size and uniformity of grains while the element components of marble determine the colour of the stone.

Generally, calcite and dolomite marbles are of pure white colour.

Variations of whiteness of pure marbles are due to the mixture of foreign substances. Such impurities form streaks and clouds which often resembles veins.

Marble is not an ideal choice for a kitchen surface as it porous, softer and less durable when compared to granite. Whilst it is a popular choice among the public, it is a difficult surface to maintain. If you’re after a light-coloured natural stone, Granite would be a perfect fit.

Applications for marble can include however are not limited to; restaurants, reception desks, lift walls and servery panels just to name a few.

Limestone

Recognised as the premium countertop material for bathrooms and other interior surfaces.

Limestone is a sedimentary rock that is formed at the bottom of lakes and seas, as organic matter settles to the bottom.

Limestone colours are generally soft beiges, tans, and light shades of grey.

A distinguishing characteristic of many limestones is the presence of fossils that are frequently visible in the stone surfaces.

As more and more layers build up over thousands and millions of years, adding more and more weight, the heat and pressure cause chemical reactions to take place to harden the sediments into solid stone.

Like marble, limestone is highly susceptible to acids like citrus juices, vinegars and mustards. Limestone is the weakest of the three most popular surfaces when fighting porosity.

With the right treatment plan and regular care your stone will be beaming in the heart of your home.

Applications for limestone can include however are not limited to; stairs/grand entrance, fireplaces, reception desks, or wall cladding just to name a few.
