Engineered stone
The surface material adds vibrancy, style, and a modern look to kitchens and bathrooms at affordable prices combined with easy maintenance.
Engineered stone is also known as “reconstituted stone” and is composed of natural marble/granite granulates and powder combined with a highly specialised polyester resin.
Please note Marble & Granite Fitters only supply 0% silica engineered stone from 1 July 2024.
The resulting product has physical properties like those of marble/granite but has several properties and characteristics that surpass natural marble/granite from its raw state.
Other ground aggregates such as stones, mirror flecks, coloured glass and shells are also added to some batches and combine the strength and durability of composite materials with the elegance of natural stone.
We Supply, Manufacture And Install Quality Stone Surfaces To The Leading Building Companies In Cairns And Surrounding Regions.
About engineered stone
The makeup of engineered stone can be quite complex, however for simplicity’s sake the approximate breakdown of engineered stone most brands have contained more than 90%–95% of natural granulates and 5%–10% combined bonding agents, special additives, and pigments.
Most stone brands are reducing the % of natural granulated stone contents and each stone brand will have a different % for example just to mention a couple. Silestone 4% – 40% and Smartstone New Gen <38%
These components make it an extremely hard wearing, practical and highly versatile surface which is virtually non-porous, resists scratching and chipping, is high impact and stain resistant.
